Yes there was, we filled a thread with the exact same thing a week ago, less than a week ago if you go from day closed (I believe). How about I open it until tonight, and then I'll close it, that way everyone can have their closing thoughts or whatever

I can empathise with the problems you're having Puffin - your approach towards art topics is akin to my approach towards historical or political topics, albeit with a few differences.

Firstly, I can confirm that you are being a wanker. However, there is a simple solution in order to de-wankify you.

The problem lies in the way in which you enter into an art topic. You constantly remind us of the fact that you have studied art at length (3rd year fine art or whatever it is) and base your arguments on your qualifications, rather than letting them stand on their own merits. No-one appreciates being treated as an inferior, just because their opponent is waving a piece of paper with a stamp on it that they got from university.

When I enter into a historical or political debate, I don't write posts along the line of "As an honours student in History/Politics I am right, you are wrong." Rather, I let my statements stand on their own merits. To be certain, I am basing my arguments on my knowledge acquired during my degree, but I don't make a point of emphasising my qualifications, as if they somehow win the argument for me. Because they don't. They enable me to make stronger arguments, but it's not the instant win that you think your art degree is.

Basically, what you need to do is stop being an arty elitist, and consider that other people, although they may lack a formal education in art, have perfectly valid and compelling arguments to make, and that you would do well to listen to them.

In all honesty, I've only really mentioned my school once, and as soon as I posted it it I knew it was a mistake for exactly the reasons you mentioned

In the art world, much of your pith comes from your experience, both quality and quantity.  The foundation of that is your schooling, and not necessarily the quality of your education, but the name from which it was received. 

Art students are taught very early on that there are insiders and outsiders to the art world. Yes everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it, but it doesn't mean anything unless they have some sort of validation.  You might think, "What the hell?! What right does this critic have to tell me what's good and bad art, especially when they don't practice it themselves?!"  It all comes from where they studied, how much they know of the past, and how much bulls**** they can spew while waxing intellectual.

To sum it up, the art world is a bunch of wankers.  It's what he was raised to be. At least he realizes it, much of the art world does not.  Or if they do, they see it as they have the right to be.
