This one just rubs me so wrong I've got to say something.
Sorc, you are a
f***ing idiot
. This is why;
Quote from: Sorc.Polgara on July 18, 2010, 08:22:58 PM
Sometimes I do things simply because I can.
Also this;
Quote from: Sorc.Polgara on July 18, 2010, 07:41:34 PM
eventually make my way to dual wielding 9MM or .357 glocks.
And some of this;
Quote from: Sorc.Polgara on July 18, 2010, 08:22:58 PM
Martial arts requires too much mental discipline and s****.
If you don't understand the responsibility which comes with a firearm,
DON'T f***ING GET ONE UNTIL YOU DO
. Take some classes. Educate yourself.
HAVE A REASON
. This isn't a reason;
Quote
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Are you a
MILITIA
? Are your rights being
INFRINGED
? Do you feel the need to
FIGHT FOREIGN POWERS ON YOUR HOME SOIL
? Are these
CHAINTALICS WORKING
?
You don't value your right to bear arms. You don't understand your right to bear arms. You don't understand how to handle a handgun yet. This isn't a John Woo flick and you're not going to be able to use a pair of handguns akimbo without limiting yourself severely compared to a single extended magizine.
I grew up around rednecks. Family next to mine would go out hunting and come back with a DEER AND A BEAR AND RABBITS AND DUCK. Sure they had an ungodly collection of handguns and rifles; this family was proud of their ability to wield each with care and expertise. Their kids didn't get to TOUCH one unless supervised. They didn't fire one unless they had to, or they were doing target practice. They kept an accurate log of shots fired and rounds expended, as well as bullets retrieved from game. Someone picked up a rifle and they had to go to the book and write it in what they did because
that s**** is dangerous and not to be f***ed around with
.
And not once did I hear them talk about their Second Amendment to the US Constitution being the reason they had a gun. Or because they THEY FEEL LIKE IT. They were responsible. Be responsible.
Your quote of the 2nd amendment is wrong, you missed a comma after militia.
Quote
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
And if interpreting the 2nd amendment was so clear cut as you think it is, then there wouldn't be so much controversy over it still today. So while I respect your interpretation of the 2nd amendment, I interpret it as granting me the right to bear arms even if I'm not in a militia.
And contrary to my trollish previous posts. I am buying a gun for fun and for education purposes. Despite my online persona, I'm a pretty responsible human being in real life. Actually, to the point of being pretty uptight and serious. I act like an "f***ing idiot" online because it's not something I do much in real life.
I am serious about buying a .22. If I was a "f***ing idiot" as everyone thinks I am, then I would be straight out buying a gun 9MM or higher caliber gun as my first gun and not give a rat's ass about learning the basics first with a .22. The whole dual wielding s**** was added in jest.
Regularly going to some shooting range and renting a gun every week is expensive and not worth it when you can own it yourself.

go to a firing range, find out what they have, and play around with those first
a gun is expensive. don't buy one without shooting it, and you'll be surprise at just how much force some triggers take (especially on wheelguns aka revolvers).
This.

Even if you buy a gun, you still have to pay for the range. Plus if you have never fired a real gun, you are gonna be in for surprise. Might as well make the the small payment for renting to get a feel for what you like.

I, too, plan on owning a gun at some point. Not because I think it makes me look cool, but because I think it makes sense. Firstly, its a matter of principle. If I don't own a gun, I'm at the mercy of anyone who does. Second, I believe in being prepared for any contingency. Of course, I don't have the resources to make my apartment into a mobile armored fortress which grows its own food and manufactures its own supplies, sad to say, but I don't think there's any harm in putting together a low-level survival kit for eventualities like a zombie apocalypse and I believe a gun should be a part of it.
I also think the whole attitude of "martial arts are great for self-defense" is a stupid one. First of all, martial arts is a sport, with rules, strict adherence to forms, and emphasis on technique. If you really want self-defense ability, martial arts is a holdout from the past, and will teach you nothing more than limited, formal, regulated hand to hand combat. We're a long way from traditions in Ancient China, where every master of a school was required to prove his superiority in a street fight against anyone who showed up at his front step and issued a challenge. Anyone with a gun or even a can of pepper spray is going to kick the s**** out of all but the luckiest martial artists. Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee style combat where a single martial artist takes on fifty armed thugs in a fair fight never works in real life. Even going to an army camp will render you more prepared for actual self-defense than martial arts will, as those things emphasize stealth, stamina, and survival more than fighting techniques developed for fighting other people under the same rules as you.
Another point to make is that guns are the leveller. The gun doesn't care if you're a vicious brawler or the highest degree of black belt or a desperate cocaine addict looking for your next fix - it kills everyone equally. This means people who ordinarily ain't got much of a chance against a big, strong man with muscles on his muscles can fight him on equal grounds if they have a gun and know how to use it.
Don't get me wrong, I think its perfectly possible for a martial artist to beat someone armed with a gun. The martial artist could buy a gun himself.

Owning a single gun wont help you vs zombies. They'll overwhelm the unprepared and eventually outnumber you thousands to one. You'll need a self sufficient fortress capable of withstanding assault.

i don't think sorc was acting like a straight out idiot till the 2nd page of this thread. Unlike aeth I also know his comment about dual weilding guns was added in jest, and probably in reference to CS or whatever. no human being of intelligence actually thinks you can fire 2 guns at once in reasonable accuracy.
do you have any background in guns yet sorc? try a compound bow, you'll get a lot less flak for it and it's actually quite fun (or at least I have fun with mine)

Incorrect. The gun is simply to protect you from the few zombies you will initially encounter while preparing for a long-term solution.
In my case, the shotgun is for ensuring step 1 of my plan: getting to my car, then finding a semi tractor trailor to hijack, and one trip to pick up supplies. Afterwards I will just run over any zombies that get in my way on the way to Alaska, where I will wait out the zombiepocalypse.

You'd have to go through Canadar. Can you pick up LK and save him too?

If Big Lou and LK are representative of the sort of person that will live through the zombiepocalypse, I might give survival a miss.
